Environmental protection and conservation initiatives such as tree planting have been the primary focus of GTF over the past three decades. Community based tree planting campaigns such as ‘A Tree in the Desert, a Karayu Women’s Initiative’ have resulted in the greening of the arid Fantalle landscape in the Upper Awash Valley.
 In recent years, GTF has continued its efforts by participating in the national ‘Green Legacy’ initiatives by planting trees at all of its field project offices in the country. The tree nursery site at the Millennium Primary School in Bishoftu is one such place where hundreds of seedlings are currently growing to be planted in the summer.
